Uechi-Ryu Karate-do Kobudo AikidoGlossary

Kobudo

As a supplement to karate-do training, we also offer kobudo, the study of the indigineous weapons of Okinawa.

We plan on adding considerably more information to this page.

Here are some of the weapons in the kobudo system. Not pictured are the bo (long staff) and eku (oar).

JifaThis is a jifa, a small weapon held in the hand. It can also be used as a hair pin.

This pair is made of ironwood by Rik Lostritto.

NunchakuTwo pair of nunchaku, make by Rik Lostritto.

SAiThis is a pair of sai.

This is a pair of tonfa. If they look very similar to a police officer's batan, that is not coincidental—the batons were modelled after tonfa.
